This two-part omnibus film was commissioned to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Revolution. Deemed too dark by Brezhnev’s censors, the film was immediately shelved, and first shown only twenty years later in 1987.

Marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, Kino Klassika presents Sergei Eisenstein’s 1928 film masterpiece, October, which recreates the events of October 1917. This British premiere gives us an opportunity to see the film accompanied by music originally composed by Edmund Meisel with the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Frank Strobel.

Marx proclaimed that throwing off its chains, the proleteriat had a world to win. Kino Klassika will host a season of screenings, talks and events with Regent Street Cinema to mark the centenary of the October Revolution. The season opens with Sergei Eisenstein’s Battleship Potemkin, the iconic film the revolution inspired, and goes on to examine a century of revolution on film.
